ABSTRACT

Performances of local birds fed raw and boiled pigeon pea seed diets were investigated A total of sixty local birds (20 weeks old) were used for the experiment. The birds were hatched in the University teaching and Research farm and their initial weights were taken before placing them in the various treatments. The diets was formulated using pigeon pea as the test ingredients at levels of 0, 15, 20, 25, 30% of inclusion. The following parameters were taken initial live weight (g), live weight at 6 months of lay (days),daily feed intake (g), average egg weight (g), hen-day production (%), egg mass\bird\day, feed conversion ratio, age at first egg (days). Diet U (which had 0% pigeon pea seed meal) showed that the diet of 30%PSM inclusion rate of raw pigeon pea seed meal significantly (P<0.05) gave better results. Therefore, it is recommended for use in feed formulation for local birds.
