Municipal Waste Dump Sites In Umuahia North Local Government Area And Their Pollution Of The Environment:- Maduka, Oluchi G.

ABSTRACT

This study focused on municipal waste dump sites in Umuahia North Local Government Area. Environmental samples (soil and water) were analyzed to determine the concentration and content of various pollutants (heavy metals), using the multiple nutrient wet-digestion method. A descriptive questionnaire was used to obtain information on the health states of the people living around the municipal waste dump sites. Soil sample from the dump were obtained from four (4) dump sites viz; Health centre by Golden Guinea Road, Umuahia main dump site Eket Street and were compared to samples taken from Agbama Housing Estate which is a residential area on the outskirt of the Local Government Area. It was found out that there are many heavy metals at the dump sites, resulting to the pollution of the environment ofthe area.
