ABSTRACT

A modified soap stamping and tableting machine comprising of a conveying unit,

stamping/tableting unit and one electric motor was designed, tested and evaluated. The

machine is powered by 1HP single phase electric motor fitted with a variable speed

reducer. The results of its performance test indicates that it has an optimum capacity of

stamping and tableting 7800 soap tablets per hour with an efficiency of about 98.5%.

All materials used in the fabrication of this machine was sourced locally, the machine

is of low cost and averaged about sixty one thousand two hundred and fifty naira

(N61,250.00). This machine saved energy by using a single 1HP electric motor

compared to the double electric motor of 2HP and 4HP electric motor used in the

previously developed ones. It further reduced the price of the machine and makes soap

production business more profitable for small scale soap manufacturers.
