Abstract

The study highlights the information needs and information seeking behaviour of Library and Information Science students in Abia State University Library. Descriptive survey research design was adoptedfor this study. Population ofthe study consists of112 studentsfrom Library and Information Science department in ABSU. The researcher used mean scores and frequency count. The following findings were made that information needs of library and information science students are educational information, political information, job opportunities economic information etc. The problems encountered in information search are awareness of available materials, inconvenient opening and closing hours ofthe library, poor arrangement oflibrary collections etc. It is however concluded that information needs go a long way in determining the seeking behaviour of the students. Based on the findings the following recommendations were made that there should be provision of proper infrastructure and the physical library premises should be located at a convenientplace etc. Keywords: Information, Information needs, Information seeking behaviour, Information Science
