ABSTRACT

In recent time, the need for sustainable development cannot be over emphazised. Since the early 1980s, the term sustainable development has been used widely and indiscriminately. The term began to gain popularity, when it became increasingly fashionable to use it as a way ofresponding to global environmental concerns, biophysical issues, fairness, equity and distribution (Akintoye and Opeyemi, 2014). In view ofthis, it therefore, becomes necessary to examine how information literacy could be used to achieve sustainable development in Nigeria. This becomes inevitable because if any development is to be sustained, the citizens must possess the requisite information literacy and skills. Information literacy is vitally tied to the strategic value and use of information, and it is obvious that information is a powerfid tool for development in any nation.
