Information And Communication Technology Skills Of Academic Librarians: A Case Study Of Michael Okpara University Of Agriculture Umudike Library.

ABSTRACT

The purpose of the study was to ascertain the ICT skills of Academic Librarians in Michael Okpara University of Agriculture Umudike (MOUA U) Library, identify its challenges, and find out strategies for overcoming the challenges. The research design for the study is descriptive survey. The population of the study is 14 and the sample technique is complete census. Instrument for data collection is selfdesigned questionnaire. 14 copies of the questionnaires were distributed to MOUA U Librarian out of which 14 copies were returned representing 100%. To analyze data, Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS 20.00), standard deviation and criterion mean were used Frequency table was used for data presentation. The findings revealed that the ICT skills of Academic Librarians in MOUA U Library are totally high. Challenges such as insufficient computer system, insufficient fund, lack of maintenance etc. were identfIedBased on the research findings, intensive awareness campaign, seeking for alternative sources of fund, freewill donations etc. were strategies to tackle the challenges. The research concludes that unless these challenges are tackled, meaningful progress in the development and deployment of ICT skills among MOUA U Librarians will not be achieved.
