ABSTRACT

 This study was designed to identify the influence of nursery education on academic development of children in primary schools in Ikwuano Local Government Area of Abia State. Survey research design was adopted in carrying out this research. The specific objectives of the study were to ascertain the meaning of nursery education, identify the Cognitive, social and moral development through nursery education. The study was guided by four research questions. The study comprised a total populatiOn of 200 teachers of which, all the 200-samples were used. The instrument for data collection was a structured questionnaire. Percentage, frequency and mean were used for analyzing the data. The finding indicated that nursery education has a positive influence on academic development of children in primary schools and also influences their cognitive ability, social skills and moral values. Based on the findings, it was recommended that government and educational planners should look into the curriculum, and provide adequate facilities and qualified teachers for the sub-sector. Also, provide enlightment campaign about the importance of nursery education especially in the rural areas.
