Implementation Of Technical Teacher Education Programme In Electrical/Electronics Technology In Universities In South-East Nigeria

ABSTRACT

The study evaluated the implementation of Technical Teacher Education Programme in Electrica/Electronics Technology in Universities in South East Nigeria. The study was guided by six research questions and five hypotheses. The study adopted descriptive survey design. The population of the study was all the Technical Teachers in Electrical/Electronics Technology in Universities in South East Nigeria. The instrument for data collection was the researcher made questionnaire titled the Implementation of Technical Teacher Education Programme in Electrical/Electronics Technology (ITTEPEET). The instrument was validated by three experts from the Department of Science Education and one expert in the Department of Industrial Technology Education (ITE), College of Education (COED) Umudike, Abia State. The reliability of the instrument was 0.92 which was derived using test re-test method. The means and standard deviations were used to answer the research questions while the hypotheses were tested at 0.05 level of significance using the Pearsons Product Moment Correlation Coefficient statistics. The findings revealed that instructional materials available for this programme are not adequate and that there has not been enough support by the government towards the funding of Technical Teacher Education Programme in Electrical/Electronics Technology. The study recommended, among others, that instructional materials should be provided for the programme and government should increase the funding of Technical Teacher Education Programme in Electrical/Electronics Technology in Universities in Nigeria.
