Impact Of Small Scale Business On The Growth Of Aba Meteroplis

ABSTRACT

The study evaluated the impact of small scale business on the growth of Aba metropolis, Abia State, Nigeria. Beyond the broad objective, the study sought specifically to determine the contribution of small scale business in job creation in Aba metropolis, determine the role of small scale business in the economic development of Nigeria, determine the contribution of small scale business in skill acquisition and determine the contribution of small scale business in addressing social vices in Aba metropolis. A total of 91 staff of small scale businesses were selected across the Aba metropolis in Abia state using stratified sampling technique from which data and information were elicited using the questionnaire. Analytically, the study employed descriptive statistics in attainment of research questions and employed Chi-square in testing the hypothesis. The analytical result revealed that there is there a significant relationship between small scale business growth of Aba metropolis (46.2 1O>9.49).The study conc1ides that maintenance of healthy small scale business is vital and important for grcwth and development of Aba metropolis and the economy generally and recommends amongst others that Government should create a conducive business environment that can motivate people to invest in small scale businesses as a panacea o poverty reduction and positive contribution to economic development.
