ABSTRACT

In this sturdy, we set out to empirically investigate the impact of monetary and fiscal policies on the economic growth of Nigeria using ordinary least square regression analysis with annual time series covering period of 1 990-2011. Data for this study was obtained form CBN statistical bulletin. The result of the study led to several interesting conclusions. First, federal government recurrent expenditure has a positive and significant impact on th economic growth of Nigeria. The study recommends that government should examine both money supply, treasure bill, monetary policy rate and cash reserve ratio and capital expenditure to make them relevant to economic development. If the monetary policies are not effective, a new set of policies should be put in place which may be relevant for economic growth purposes.
