Impact Of Government Expenditure On Economic Growth In Nigeria (1986-2015).

ABSTRACT

The study was conducted to examine the impact of Governement Expenditure on Economics 

Growth in Nigeria. Using time series data spanning thirty years (1986 - 2015) there was a tie between governement 

expenditure and economiv development. the work employed in expert fact research survey design in 

generatinguse of the ordinary least square method (OLS) regression tools in analyzes and in

establishment of the relationship between the government expenditure and the

ecOflonliC development of Nigeria. From the summary gathered in the analyzes

carried out, it was concluded thus, that economically, Nigeria has spent more on

reculTent expenditure which is uneconomical and accounting for low de\ clopment

and economic imbalance. I'he national expenditure would yield more ii it has been

channeled to capital expenditure, though both recurrent and capital expenditure has

impact hut rate of expenditure on recurrent supersedes that of capital expenditure

thus making ii. have more effect. However, the period under review in this study.

Thus public expenditures has effect on the real GI)P of the country. The work

recommends that a review on the allocation of public fund should he carried out to

attend on the recurrent and capital expenditure dichotomy to enhance efiicienc

and growth in the economy. A restudy should be carried out to ascertain further

1ctors and expenses that does not !ll under recurrent not capital expenditures that

affects the economy and its real (WI) while the results and conclusion ot this work

should he adopted and implemented by the senate to make amends for balance of

payment deficiency in the economy caused by excess recurrent expenditure as well

as a working material for economic decision.
