Abstract

The study examined The Impact of Globalization on the Nigerian Financial Sector. Specially the study sought to; (a) To ascertain the impact ofPortfolio Investment on the Market capitalization ofNigeria, (b) To examine the impact of Trade Openness on the Market capitalization ofNigeria, (c) To determine the impact ofForeign DirectInvestment on the Market capitalization ofNigeria. The data used are Nigerian yearly datafrom 1981 to 2017; the data were analyzed using ordinary least square statistical technique, Augmented Dickey Fuller (ADF) for Unit Root Test, Johannes's co-integration and error correction mechanism. We used Augmented Dickey-fuller statistics testfor stationary. All the variables attained stationarity atfirst difference. It wasfound thatportfolio investment has negative and insignificant effect on market capitalization of Nigeria while trade openness and foreign direct investment has positive and insignificant effect on market capitalization of Nigeria. The study recommended that the government should adopt modern information and technology and also global stock market standards.
