Abstract
This paper examines the impact ofdividendpolicy on firms performance in Nigeria from 1981 — 2018. The objective ofthe study is to look at the impact ofdividendpolicy onfirms performance in Nigeria. Secondary data were collected based on the model used in the research work and unit root test was conducted on the data to test their stationary, after which we perform co-integration test to analyze the long run relationship among the variables. The result obtainedfrom our empirical analysis shows that there is a long run relationship between government expenditure and economic growth in Nigeria within the period under review. The study therefore recommend that there is a need to instillfiscal discipline in government expenditures by initiatingfar reaching '■effective internal control measures and more proactive economic management coordination and implementation as well as discouraging all non-productive activities and expenditures in all tiers ofgovernmentforthwith. < • Keywords: Fiscal Discipline, Government, Nigeria, Expenditure, Economic Growth, Capital and Recurrent Expenditure.
