IMPACT OF ACCOUNTING INFORMATION SYSTEM ON THE PERFORMANCE SMALL AND MEDIUM SCALE ENTERPRISE (A STUDY OF UDAL PORT ABLE WATER, UMUAHIA

Abstract

This research is therefore carried out to study the impact of accounting information system on the performance of SMEs. To guide the study, three research questions were generated..  Arising from  the research questions, three hypotheses were formulated.   The population  of the study

composed of operational and management staff of Udal Portable Water,  Umuahia.from  which a sample size offifty-two  (52) staff was drawn, through a stratified sampling method. The data used for this study was collected through the questionnaire technique as the primary source of data. Thereafter, data which  was collected from  the respondent  was analyzed using simple regression Model using the statistical packages for social sciences (SPSS). The summary of the findings  of the research revealed that the coefficient of accounting  information  system (A/S) were all positive  in all the three hypotheses,  meaning  that there exists a positive  influence between accounting information system and SMEs performance  in the short run; and the study recommends among others, that to encourage the adoption of sound accounting system in small and medium  scale enterprises,  the cost of installing  and operating such  systems should  be minimized before making short and long-term policies, plans and decisions.
