Abstract

This study explored the pattern ofinteraction between the English Language teacher and his/her students with teacher gender as a determining factor. The sample consisted of722 SS3 students drawn by stratified random sampling from Aba Educational Zone. The design was a cross-sectional survey. Data was collected by a questionnaire developed and validated by researchers. The psychometric qualities ofthe instrumentwere appropriately determined. Data was analyzed using means, standard deviation and t-test. Result indicated that male English language teachers interacted well with the students, while the reverse was the case with female English language teachers. Itfurther indicated that teacher characteristics influence teacher-student interaction pattern in an English language class.
