ABSTRACT

This work highlights the fundamental roles of emotional and psychical development in the teaching and learningof the Nigerian child. The state of ones emotion and psyche all improve classroom learning. Emotion regulates individual behaviour while psyche determines the tone of development of the personalities in that particular environment. It also has to do with how one feels about something which determines the persons readiness and level ofresponses towards that. The stages and theories of emotional development were x-rayed. Along the same line kinds of psychical development was extensively discussed. The role the teacher should play to encourage pleasant experiences and discourage those that will yield unpleasant feelings in the child regarding emotion and psyche was also discussed. Finally, the concision was drawn based on the importance ofemotion and psychical development to classroom teaching and learning.
