ABSTRACT

The study was on the factors influencing the effective participation of women in food security programmes in Ohafia Local Government area of Ahia State. .he main objective ·of the study was to determine the factors influencing woren participation in food security programmes. The specific objective include: To determine the socio-economic characteristics of women farmers and to examine their food security status. Primary and secondary data were used. Primary data used were well structured questionnaire. Purposive random sampling techniq 1es was used. First was the selection of Ohafia Agricultural zones of Ahia State fr om the three Agricultural Zones of the state. Second stage was the random selection of three communities Ebem, Elu and Amaekpu from which forty respondents were selected from each community, making a total of 120 respondents sampled. Percentages, multiple regression were used for analysis. The major results of the regression analysis showed that five out of the thirteen independent variat les (marital status 0.203, household size 0.424, education -0.233** extension visit -0.130, Access to farm input 0.363) were significant at 1% and 5% level of probability respectively. Therefore the major recommendation is tat government should continue to facilitate and strengthen the contributions of women to agricultural growth and the alleviation of rural poverty
