ABSTRACT

A study was carried out to evaluate wastes generated in Nigerian Breweries Aba, Abia state. Samples of the waste were collected in the months of July, August and September, 2017. The sample were analysed to determine the presence of Copper, Zinc, Iron, Sodium, Calcium, Magnesium, Sulphur, Chloride and Potassium. Results show that Temperature(°C) was 31.8-36.5°C with mean value of 24.5°C, pH effluent from 8.2-8.8 with mean value of 8.4, Electrical conductivity effluent 735-862.5mg/L-1 at 35 °C, Biological oxygen demand effluent from 154-172 mg/ L' , Total dissolve solids ranged from 624-726mg/I, Total suspended solids ranged from 1122-15624mg/I. The percentage compliance from the three different liquid waste samples with guideline values of FEPA, EBA and NEQS show the samples meet the requirement in B.O.D, pH, temperature and above standards at its Electrical conductivity, total dissolved solids and Total suspended solids. This result shows that the waste management techniques in Nigeria Breweries Aba is to an extent efficient but requires more adequate techniques for parameters not within recommended standards.
