ABSTRACT

A healthy and functioning society is the bedrock of a healthy, viable, and productive nation. Tuberculosis is a major global health issue (WHO, 2014). The bacterium, Mycobacterium tuberculosis causes this historic, airborne infectious disease. Tuberculosis is the second leading infectious killer after COVID-19. In 2020, the emergence of COVID-19 surpassed tuberculosis as the leading infectious cause of death (Chakaya et al., 2021). Overall, the pandemic's spread has hampered the progress of global TB infection eradication programmmes, which must be restarted with a much greater effort. There has been a decrease in TB incidence and notification, as well as an increase in the TB death rate (Jeremiah et al., 2021).
