Effects Of Amaranthus Retroflexus On Aematological Index And Lipid Profile Of Wista Albino Rats

ABSTRACT

Amaranihus Reiroflexus L . has been found useful in ethno-medicine over the year for the remedies of various diseases .The presence study was undertaking to evaluate the haemato!ogical index and lipid profile of ethno leaf extract of Amaranilius ReIrq/lexus on wistar albino rats. Six groups of two animals each was used for this study. Ethanol leaf extract of Amaranihus reiroflexus was administered to the experimental rats intraperitoneally at different doses of 62.5mg ,125mg, 250mg, 500mg,and 1000mg body weight. Normal saline was administered to the Negative control group. the parameters used to evaluate the haematological index are; haemoglobin (Fib), red blood cell count(RBC), white blood cell count(WBC), packed cell volume, platelet count and differential count. The extract produce a significant decrease (p<O.OS) in 1-lb at 1000mg and 500mg/kg (5.67±0.47)and (6.91±0.46) respectively and also in WBC, RBC, PCV, and differential count, there was a significant decrease (p<O.OS) but the extract had no significant effect on platelet count (p>0.05).The lipid profile study was evaluated with the following parameters; Total cholesterol, Triglycerides, I-ugh density lipoprotein(HDL-C) and low density lipoprotein (LDL-C) .The extract produced a significant increase in total cholesterol at 250mg/kg (134.33±4.60) and Triacyiglycerol at lower doses of 250, 125,and 62.5mg(l 33.1 2±13.34),(102.72±20.75),(l 17.39±60.78) respectively. From these results, it can be seen that ethanol leaf extracl o1A,narariilii.is retroflexus has significant effect on haernatological parameters and lipid.
