Effect Of Nigerian Stock Exchange Performance On Economic Growth Of Nigeria

ABSTRACT

The study  examine  the effect  of Nigerian  stock exchange performance on economic  growth of Nigeria,  Secondary  data·   were  sourced from  annual  report  of central  bank  (CBN)statistical bulletin,  the Nigerian stock  exchange  publication   and  the  national   bureau  of  statistic  and other relevant  websites  and publications.   The method  of data  analysis  used  is the  ordinary least  square   (OLS).  The  major  findings  revealed   that  gross   domestic   product   (GDP)  of Nigeria  have  a significant   effect  on  the performance   of  the Nigerian   stock  exchange.   It  is recommended   that  the  government   should   institute  policies   that  will further   increase  the value . of  market   transaction   in  the  economy   and  also  remove   hindrances   on  the part   of prospective    investors  so  as  to  increase  both  the  volume  and  value  of  transactions   in  the market.   An  increase  in  the  value  of  transaction   will  in  turn  lead  to  economic  growth   of Nigeria.  And  also  there  is need for  the government   through  the  central  bank  to  implement policy  that will  increase  the level and the size of market  capitalization   in the capital  market. Such  increase  in capital market will provide  the needed funds for  local  investors forfurther investments   and hence  increased  the productivity   in Nigeria  economy .
