ABSTRACT

The study has evaluated the effect of exchange rate fluctuation on nonoil export in Nigeria. The specific objective ofthe study are to examine the impact ofexchange rate fluctuations on non-oil export performance in Nigeria and ascertain if there is any long run relationship between exchange ratefluctuations and non-oil export performance in Nigeria. To empirically achieve the set out objectives, the study adopted modern econometric analyzing technicpies such as the unit root test and the OLS methodfor the period. The findings ofthis study is summarized asfollows; There is no significant relationship between exchange rate fluctuations and non-oil export performance in Nigeria. The probability value ofEXCHRF and NOEXP is 0.0001 which is less than 005, we reject null hypothesis and accept alternative hypothesis and conclude that there is ' significant relationship between exchange rate fluctuations and non-oil export performance in Nigeria. Also there is no long run relationship between exchange rate fluctuations and non-oil export performance in Nigeria. Johansen co-integration test was used to test this hypothesis and revealed that there is a long run relationship between exchange rate fluctuations and non-oil export performance in Nigeria. Based on the findings ofthis study it is thus recommended that; Government should invest more on non-oil export so as to reduce foreign exchange rate. Also Government should enact policies that will help to reduce exchange rate. It can be concluded that there is a significant relationship between non-oil export performance and exchange rate fluctuations in Nigeria within the years under review
