ABSTRACT

This study investigated the effect of ethanol leaf extract of Ficus Capensis on the lipid profile and haematological indices on Wistar albino rats. The extract was tested at 200mg/kg and 400mg/kg given orally for 28days. The result showed that both doses ofthe extract did not cause any significant (p > 0.05) difference both in haematological parameters and lipid profile oftreated rats when compared with the control. In the acute toxicity study, there was neither death nor any other sign of toxicity indicating that the extract was well tolerated by the rats at the doses tested. These results suggest that using Ficus Capensis leaves for healing may not cause any adverse on toxic effects on hematology and lipid profile.
