ABSTRACT


The study examined the effect of corporate social responsibility on the financial performance

of firms in Nigeria (A study of Zenith Bank Nigeria Plc). The study created 3 specific

objectives and the model used was an ex-post facto model. The study uses secondary data for

the collection of data only. The data used are extracted from the annual reports of Zenith

Bank Nigeria PLC, and the data is for the period of 5years ranging 2012-2016.The study

found that corporate social responsibility cost has a significant effect on return on asset

,return on equity, and profit after tax. The study therefore recommends that firms should be

made to consider corporate social responsibility as an investment, thus, it helps a company's

reputation by creating a positive image in the mind of customers. The government should

through the regulatory authorities, compel financial institutions to embark on corporate social

responsibility.
