ABSTRACT

The studyfocused on the effects ofCorporate Social Responsibility on shareholders net wbrth. The objective ofthe study is to examine the effect ofCorporate SocialResponsibility bn shareholders net worth in Conoil Pic. To achieve the objective ofthis study ex post facto research design was adopted and time series data was collected .The researcher adopted secondary data in getting the required information. The researcher made use of published annual reports extracted from Conoil Pic official website from 2008-2018, which is period of11 years. In testing the hypothesis, Ordinary least square (OLS) simple regression analysis was used. Thefindings revealed that Corporate Social Responsibility has no significant effect on the return on equity of Conoil Pic in Nigeria. Equally the findings also show that Corporate Social Responsibility has a significant effect on Earnings per share of Conoil Pic in Nigeria. And finally the findings revealed that Corporate Social Responsibility has a significant effect on the net assets of Conoil Pic in Nigeria. The study took to reveal the effect ofCorporate Social Responsibility on the net worth ofshareholders ofConoil Pic in Nigeria. It is believed that it wouldhelp throw more light on the problems faced by companies with respect to promoting its social responsibility since it involves expenditure of the firm's financial resources. The researcher recommends that company’s management should adopt good programs and scheme that helps to perform its social responsibility to the community, such as provision ofsocial amenities needed by the communitiesfor example, health Centre, and pipe - borne water etc. We suggest that investors should not be scared to invest its resource in the firms due to social responsibility costs as it has been proven to have a significant and positive effect on thefirm and their net worth. The Studyfurtherrecommends thatpotential investors shouldpartner withfirms that are socially responsible and it encourages buyers within and outside its environs which leads to optimum increase in thefirm’s profitability.
