Effect of Co-operative Societies on the Growth of SMEs in Umuahia:-

ABSTRACT

 The study investigated the Effect of Co-operative Societies on the Growth of SM Es in Umuahia and throws more light on co-operative societies as viable channels of raising capital for SMEs with the main intention of determining the impact of co-operatives on such SMEs which adds value to the Nigerian economy. Chi-Square was used for data analysis on which Taro Yamene 's method was adopted. The findings show that there is significant financial impact of co-operative societies as microcredit delivery channels and also that there are factors militating against cooperative societies as a microcredit delivery channel in SMEs. The study recommends that. Government should support Co-operatives by providing loans and reducing interest rate on loans. The study further recommends that there should be mutual co-operation amongst members of co-operatives. Key Words: Co-operative Societies. Growth and SMEs, Microcredit.
