Effect Of Board Characteristics On The Profitability of Public Liability Companies

ABSTRACT
This study examines the effect of board characteristics on the profitability of public liability companies from 2010 to 2015. The study employs the
ex-post facto design method, data was collected using secondary source and the collected data was analyzed using regression analysis. The study found that board size has no effect on the profitability of firms and that board independence has effect on the profitability offirms and that CEO duality has a significant effect on the profitability offirms. Therefore, the researcher recommends that listed firms should put a good number of people on the board with diverse discipline, a more independent board will give' room for the interest of shareholders to be protected, need for CEO duality to curtail the excesses of board chairmen that can make decision outside the scope of the firms vision.
