ABSTRACT

The world today is a knowledge society; everyone is interested in getting what has been discovered in research, how to use the discoveries and solve day-to-day problems and how to research, share or communicate the research results for the furtherance of knowledge. Members of professional associations and faculty members in academic institutions, including librarians have professional obligation to contribute to knowledge in the field through research and creative writing. Such creative writing include not only doing original research and publishing in learned journals, but also engaging with other professionals across the curriculum in interdisciplinary activities and publishing or presenting papers and research findings and best practices in widely read publications or largely attended conferences 2003). (Hanseen ' One of the basic prerequisites for good academic research and scholarly publication is proper documentation. However it has been observed that many scholars and faculty members are not well rooted in the knowledge of documentation of research reports and other scholarly publications. In this chapter we shall expose students, researchers and other information professionals to the rudiments of documentation of research and scholarly publications.
