ABSTRACT

Road traffic safety refers to the methods and measures used to prevent road users from being killed or seriously injured. Typical road users include: pedestrians, cyclists, motorists, vehicle passengers, horse-riders and passengers of on-road public transport. In Nigeria, road safety laws, enforcement, information and awareness is usually handled by the federal road safety service commission. Public health experts worldwide concede that there is a global epidemic of road traffic accidents (RTA). Globally, RTA is the leading cause of injury-related deaths. Injuries and deaths resulting from RTA are on the rise and are Nigeria's third-leading cause of.overall deaths, the leading cause of trauma-related deaths and the most common cause of disability. This solidifies the necessity for proper education and enlightenment of individuals and road users on traffic information, safety rules and practices to curb some of these happenings.
