ABSTRACT

For the past years I have spent in this school, the scheduling oftimetables for Lectures has been a serious challenge due to the fact that huge number of lectures hold at very minimum classes which cause clash of classes holding at the same me. The situation is more difficult when the time table had all the toughest courses piled up one after the other without proper spacing. The problem oftime table scheduling for classes in our University is a major challenge due to large number of courses that a students have to offer with limited number of classrooms that are available for use. How then do we solve this type of problems in order to avoid unnecessary clashes of courses? This project work has been able to provide a cry sufficient method called GENETIC ALGORITHMS for solving such problem for timetable scheduling. The use of genetic algorithm is not for school timetabling alone but concerns any kind of situation that requires scheduling. This project work s specifically dedicated to the application of using genetic algorithm in solving school timetable scheduling. The methodology that was use for the research is object oriented analysis and design methodology. It demonstrates a practical example and how the algorithm works to achieve its primary goal using C++ as it programming language.
