ABSTRACT
The levels of glutathione and vitamin C was measured in 33 type 2 diabetic patients aged 30 — 70 years (Mean 50 years). Patients were on diet and oral hypoglycemic drug therapy, with fasting blood glucose (FBS) Levels> 7.8mmo1 / L Similar measurements were carried out in 16 apparently healthy individuals within the same age range (mean 46 years < 6.4 iiimol / L FBS was measured by the glucose oxiclase method and antioxidant levels by spectrophotometric method. Comparing the two groups, antioxidant level was significantly reduced in the type 2 diabetic patients (3.06 O41as against 11.06 ± 0.45) Good control of FBS, accompanied with antioxidant therapy, could help reduce free radical activity and minimize complication in diabetic patients.
