Determinants Of Labour Productivity In Cassava Production: A Case Study Of Ikwuano Local Government Area Of Abia State, Nigeria.

ABSTRACT

This paper reports on the factors, which influence labour productivity in lkwuano local government area of Abia state, using cassava (Manihot spp) as a, case study. Random samples of fifty- two (52) farmers were chosen from the study area for study within the cropping season. Questionnaire were used for data collection The findings show that the most important determinants of labour productivity in cassava enterprise in descending order of importance are educational attainment and labour input. The findings imply that polices that promote the availability of these resources to farmers give rise to increase m labour productivity and consequently output. In order to have high performance in cassava enterprise, adequate allocation of resources that enhances soil fertility should be adopted. The government should also embark upon adult literacy programme and other educational activities that will benefit the farmers.
