Design, Fabrication And Testing Of An Integrated Bush Mango Seed Extractor And Drying Machine

ABSTRACT

 This project is focused on the design, fabrication and testing of bush mango seed extractor and drying machine. The design consists of major components like the screw conveyor, a motor, frame, hopper, separating chamber, drying chamber, pulleys and belts, heat filament drum and bearings. The project was carried out by constructing the machine in an Engineering workshop based on theoretical design work. Materials for the construction of the seed extractor and drying machine were obtained locally. The major material used is mild steel because it's a prototype machine, safety aspect of the machine was taken into consideration. After construction, the machine was tested using the wild mango. This is due to its large size, relatively low fiber content. It operates on a 5 horse power three phase motor, an efficiency of 70%, and good seed recovery rate. The capacity of the machine was determined, the efficiency of the machine at different speeds was found out and the optimum operating speed of the machine was ascertained. The machine was found to be easy to operate, repair and maintain and this makes it suitable for local production. Its total cost of fabrication stood at N 170,000
