ABSTRACT
Development and management of a good database system as well as its security control provision has always been a major issue in this digital age. Various encryption techniques have previously been developed to provide security to users. However, a number ofthese encryption algorithms are weak or have bottlenecks thereby, putting the security of data stored in the database to question. In this work, a new hybrid database encryption model that improves the security of the database is designed. The new system was designed using Object Oriented Analysis and Design Methodology (OOADM) and New Hybrid Encryption Standard (NHES) which combines the features of the Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) and the Elgamal algorithm for encryption ofthe database to provide integrity and authentication. The system was programmed using Microsoft visual studio 2010 environment and Visual Basic.Net while the database was implemented with MySQL server 2008. The results from the analysis demonstrate that the new system has a very good performance efficiency and integrity when compared with others.
