ABSTRACT

The struggle to curtail the spread of Sexually Transmitted Infections (STls), and care for the afflicted, has become the focus of the programmes of most countries in the world today. Huge sums of money have been committed into fighting these diseases. In Nigeria, the Federal and State Governments, Voluntary agencies and individuals annually commit huge sums of money to combat Sexually Transmitted Infections, including AIDS The need to control :he diseases is becoming necessary each passing day. Merson (1983) no'ed that, if the international community fails to join forces to reduce the sµre:1d of Sexually Transmitted Infections and AIDS, " development in soma countries could be severely disrupted.
