ABSTRACT
The food sub-sector of Nigeria agriculture parades a large array of staple crops, made possible by the diversity of agro-ecological production systems. The major food crops are:- Tubers — yam, cassava, potatoes, cocoyam etc. Cereals — sorghum, maize (corn), millet, rice, wheat acha etc. Legumes — groundnuts, beans, Pigeon pea, peas and pukes etc. Others -- vegetables and fruits (Molly, 2009). These arc the commodities that are of considerable told securing expenditure and income of households (Pursglo'es, 200). These food crops are easily grown m rainy season when tli soil is soit and reiJ\ lbr the crops to grow. l lie food crops in rainy season arc always vary fisli. err and firm. These qualities make the food crop very attractive for the eyes of tire consumers; these food crops are being purchase or harvested from the farm if k in rural areas immediate consumption because of the seasonalitv (Erebor. 20U. The food crops in dry season are being produce through the use of erring it and water sprayer thereby making the Ibod crops more expensive and scarce to get. However, in the rainy season the purchasing power of the consuiucr is higher than in the dry season because of the abundant availability (Rajagopul and Mudambi, 2007).
