ABSTRACT

The food sub-sector of Nigeria agriculture parades a large array of staple crops, made possible by the diversity of agro-ecological production systems. The major food crops are:- Tubers — yam, cassava, potatoes, cocoyam etc. Cereals — sorghum, maize (corn), millet, rice, wheat acha etc. Legumes — groundnuts, beans, Pigeon pea, peas and pukes etc. Others -- vegetables and fruits (Molly, 2009). These arc the commodities that are of considerable told securing expenditure and income of households (Pursglo'es, 200).
