Competency Improvement Need Of Teachers Of Agriculture In Senior Secondary Schools In Ikeduru Local Government

Abstract

 This study was designed to identify the competency improvement need of teachers of agriculture in senior secondary schools in Ikeduru Local Government Area of Imo State. Four research questions were asked for the study. Population for this study was 80 teachers of Agriculture in all the 20 secondary schools in Jkeduru Local Government Area respectively. Data from the sample of 80 respondents was analyzed using test re-test method. Result of the findings reviewed those teachers of Agriculture who needs improvement in broiler production, crop production, pest control and seedling transplanting. The study concluded that many teachers of Agriculture should undergo training using the modular approach such as Animal husbandry, crop husbandry, fishery, poultry, soil maintenance, etc. it was recommended that teachers of Agriculture should be; retrained in broiler production, need refresher course for acquisition of skills in crop production, exposed to field work for them to acquire skills needed for pest control, Government making practical agriculture compulsory for all secondary school student in Ikeduru Local Government Area of Imo State.
