ABSTRACT
This study involves the comparative evaluation of the physiochemical properties of pig dung based tilapia feed and other tilapia feeds. The method used was a non-conventional approach with materials such as periwinkle, snail, pig dung, groundnut, sweet potatoes, palm trunk, yeast and starch the mix ratio formulation for the four different samples are as follows: 1:3:5, 1:1:1, 1:2:3 and 1:2:4 with the different parameters in the mix. From the results it was observed that for T1R1, with mix ratio 1:3:5 the feed has more protein content with 19.37% with less fatty oil content. The control has 3 5.45% which in correlation has reasonable amount. Again, for T2R1, with 1:1:1, crude protein gave 21.46%, the control gave 3 5.45% which is good for Tilapia fish growth rate, the dry matter 74.22% and the control gave 78.65% which is close showing that there were not much differences in the mix. For T3R1 the Nitrogen free extract was 17.84%, the control 15.48%, crude protein 16.63%, the control 35.45% for T4R1, the fiber content was 10.31%, control 7.35% this was due to the high content in yeast, and palm trunk. In conclusion the cost for the nonconventional materials used for production can be affordable and the mix ratio of T2RI. with 1:1:1 could be recommended for optimum performance of Tilapia fish
