Causes And Impact Of Fraud On Organizational Performances: Evidence From Deposit Money Banks In Nigeria

ABSTRACT

Bank fraud is a criminal activity that constitutes a serious menace to the survival of the Nigerian banking system. This study was undertaken to empirically ascertain the impact of fraud on the performance of Nigerian banks. It was carried with the use of primary data that was obtained through the administration of close ended questionnaire. The result of the statistical analysis carried out using ANOVA technique revealed that there was no statistically significant relationship between employee qualification, profitability and bank fraud, while there was a statistically significant relationship between type of fraud and control measures. It is recommended that bank anti-fraud control measure should be concentrated on some particular types of fraud especially ATM theft, adoption of cutting edge anti- fraud technology, and CBN stricter requirement of banks to fully disclose bank loss due to bank fraud.
