ABSTRACT
Writing a book on a single subject demands a lot of courage and effort. Writing a book that deals with four subjects of contemporary significance demands mega courage and effort. This is my first impression about this unique book. Books, Libraries and Reading in the Digital Age is eclectic in content and promises to meet the needs of a variety of readers. In this book, the author has utilized the experience he acquired working for over three decades in both academic and public libraries. It is not easy to decipher the motivations of any author but this author's concern for the cultivation and sustenance of the reading culture in our society stands out prominently. In a digital age where computers and the internet are keeping many people away from books, the author maintains that the printed book and the library are still relevant. Those who forecast doomsday for the printed book and, by extension, the library may find this work disappointing.
