Body Measurements Of Female Undergraduates For Classification Into Body Shapes At Michael Okpara University Of Agriculture, Umudikie

ABSTRACT

This study examined the body measurements of female undergraduates for classification into body shapes using Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike as case study. The study involved the use of survey and experimental method. Some body parts were used for the classification namely, bust, waist, hip, stomach and shoulder. The population for the study was one thousand two hundred (1200) female undergraduates resident in the hostel. One hundred and twenty questionnaires were administered to the female students by simple random method. One hundred and twenty questionnaires were returned. Frequencies, percentages, mean and standard deviation were used in analyzing the data. Results from the data revealed that the highest age range of the female undergraduates at MOUAU (21- 25years). Result from the study also revealed that the most predominant body shape is Hourglass glass or "8" frame which was indicated by the respondents 20.8%. Results also revealed that lesser percentage (4.2%) of the female undergraduate possessed oval or apple frame Based on this study, it was recommended that female undergraduates should know their measurements and body shapes, it will enable them select adequate clothing.
