ABSTRACT

The removal of Cr6 , Ni2a1 Fe3from aqueous solution using oxatic-acid modified and unmodified Mrican yarn bean pod and groundnut shells was studied. The effects of timE, biomass dose, pH, temperature, particle size and metal ion concentration vet e also investigated. I lie wnouniL of nrietat otis adsorbed increased as the nitial concentration increased groundnut shell gave a better adsorption :apacity in the trend of Cr6 >Ni 2 ''Fe3Also modification enhanced the adsorption capacity of both materials. The mechanism of adsorption wa found to obey particle diffusion model of Mckay and poots, and Weber- Mrris. The process was examined in terms of Radushkevich gave the best it for both unmodified and modified adsorbents. Kinetic studies showed that the phytosorption rates could be described better by a pseudo-second order rn idol. Various thermodynamic paraniotors such as AG°, AS°, AH°and [a were (alculated. The values obtained or tG° were all negative for both modified 3nd unmodified adsorbents; indicating that the sorption processes investigaled were spontaneous. The results of this study showed that both adsorbent; are efficient for the removal of Cr6 ', Ni2and I:ei from aqueous solutions.
