Application Of Polynomial Regression Analysis In Generating Prime Numbers (A Case Study Of First Hundred Primes)

ABSTRACT

The aim of this research work is to use a polynomial regression model to generate prime numbers. It also aims to determine the model that best fits the generation of primes. The data for this work were secondary data collected from table of prime numbers, the first 100 primes. The ANOVA and T-test is the statistical tool used for the analysis. The scattered plot diagram was shown and the various polynomial models were fitted and there various normal probability plot shows that points are closed together on a straight line. The significance of the various models was tested and all the models proved to be significant. The best model for the prediction of prime is that of Quartic Polynomial Model since it has the minimum variance and thus a minimum error, unlike that of its counterparts (i.e. quadratic and cubic polynomial model). Thus the model can be used to forecast future primes all thing being equal.
