ABSTRACT

The application of Chromium-Nickel (Cr-Ni) film coating on mild steel for corrosion inhibition using electro-deposition method has been achieved to enable development ofhigh performance thin film coated mild steel with high corrosion resistance and impressive engineering properties. The study developed an electroplated hybrid film coated materials using electro-deposit method with varied process parameter such as coating or deposition time, current density, voltage, bath composition, pH and temperature. The coated materials were subjected to corrosion tests in acidic corrosion media using linear polarization resistance (LPR), Tafel polarization and potentiodynamic polarization methods to determine corrosion rates and corrosion inhibition efficiencies of coated film. Results obtained showed that the electrodeposited nano hybrid film inhibited corrosion of mild steel in aggressive corrosion environment. Hence, the hybrid coating is recommended for corrosion mitigation in the industries.
