ABSTRACT

The study of anthropogenic activities threatening palm wine production in Essien Udim Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria. And among the anthropogenic activities which impede palm wine production in the area were bush burning and deforestation, whereby questionnaires were issued out to gather information from these categories ofpeople including the aged class, marital class and academia. The primary data was collected using structured questionnaire, oral interview and personal observation, while secondary data was sourced from literature, journals, textbooks, magazines and internet etc. the study result revealed that there is a significant relationship between the responses of the respondents on the adverse effect of bush burning and deforestation on palm wine production with mean value of 67.91% in the study area. It recommended that there is a need to enlighten the people through education and community awareness campaign to reduce harmful activities of bush burning and deforestation in order to preserve raffia palm trees for future uses ofthese resources in the area.
