ABSTRACT

Imo River is one of the rivers where artisanal fishing takes place. It passes through Abia, Imo and empties itself into the Atlantic Ocean in Rivers state. The National fisheries frame survey conducted within the period 2000 and 2002 indicated that there are a lot of fishermen at Imo River. These fishermen earn part of their livelihood from fishing. The dominant fish species from the Otamiri river are Tilapia sp, Clarias sp, Orechromis sp, Chrysichthyssp, Synodontissp, Protepternus sp (Orji and Akobuche, 1998).
