ABSTRACT

 This research work was designed for the study of “An effect of product planning strategies on the profitability of small-scale enterprises in Nigeria, using Abia State”. The research viewed some objectives for the study. Some of these objectives of the study include: to estimate the effect of product planning on the sales and profitability of small scale enterprises; To determine whether product planning of small-scale enterprise lead to increase customer of their products; To find out how best the company’s product life cycle can be monitored, among others. Based on these objectives hypothesis were formulated, data were sourced, extensive literature review on text books and materials on the area of the study was carried out and also structured questionnaires were used in collecting primary and secondary sources of data were also used; a population of 465072 was used. The researcher used statistics table and percentage techniques to present and analyze collected data. Regression and Chi - square were used to test hypotheses formulated. After a careful statistical analysis with empirical studies, the researcher concluded that though product planning leads to increase in sales of the product of the selected small scale enterprises. There is little margin of contribution in the corporate profitability. However, the researcher still recommend that though . product planning and strategies are effective marketing strategies, good product quality pricing, promotional campaigns and pricing policies should be adopted to enhance corporate profitability and competitive advantage.
