ABSTRACT

A survey was conducted lo access the incidence of plant parasitic nematode on cucumber in five farms in Okopedi, Itu Local Government Arca, of Akwa Ibom state. The experiment was conducted using 13carman's·cxtraction technique to extract nematodes. The results showed that the crops of cucumber in all the three farms were infected with root knot nematodes. Result also revealed that Meloidogyne spp. had the highest frequency of 720 (24.0%) in all the farms sampled, while Longidorus spp. had the lowest percentage occurrence of 40 (2.29%) in all the farms sampled. This study showed that cucumber plants are more susceptile to Meloidogyne spp. and Paralogidorus spp. there was no significant difference in the mean values of nematodes present in the three sites sampled (p<0.05). A combination of cultural, physical and chemical . means of nematode control is suggested to reduce the menace of plant parasitic nematodes
