A Study Of Recreation Parks And Gardens In Umuahia Capital Territory

ABSTRACT
The study identified recreation parks and gardens in Umuahia Capital Territory. The survey design was used. The population for the study comprised sixty (60) officials of recreational establishments and sixty recreationists who visited the sites during the researcher's visit totaling one hundred and twenty. Sixty officials and sixty recreationists totaling one hundred and twenty formed the sample for the study. Two sets of questionnaire were used for data collection- one for officials one for recreationists. Percentages were used to analyze data collected from the study. The study revealed that Umuahia Capital Territory lacked enough open spaces for the recreational needs of its growing population. Open space recreational establishments identified included the National War Museum, Ojukwu Bunker, FSP Park, Umuahia Township Stadium, etc. existing open spaces were owned by Federal and state government only. Municipal parks authorities and private investors had no recreational open spaces in the city. The study recommended that municipal authorities should plan the town in such a way that recreational open spaces should be provided and developed.
