Abstract

This study was conducted to determine the occupationalrelated stress and coping strategies among secondary school teachers in Ikwuano Local Government Area. The population of 150 teachers was drawn using simple random sampling technique. Three research questions were formulated and data was collected using the structured 14 item questionnaire researches made on a 4 point Likert scale. The instrument was validated by experts in Educational Psychology and Measurement and Evaluation. The research questions were tested using mean scores and standard deviation. Results show'ed that teaching overcrowded class, teaching period above 20 per week among other factors cause stress forteachers. Result also showed that teachers can employ a variety ofstrategies in coping with stress. Recommendations include employment of more teachers to ease over crowded classes, organizing and attending workshops on stress management, by teachers
